The majority of BBQs in the UK are cooked by men, but it’s the women who actually do the work

| blog, Food, L&B World, Summer, UK | June 30, 2015

uk weather, summer heatwave, barbecue weather
Mmmmmm (Picture: Getty)

As Britain basks in the warmth of a heat wave, it’s been revealed that male machismo is still ruling the BBQ grill – after 7 in 10 Brits revealed that a man took charge of the grill at the last BBQ they hosted.

The statistics, which were released ahead of Cancer Research’s BBQ campaign, found that 63 percent of Brits claim a woman will do most of the day-to-day cooking, but it’s the men who hog the spotlight at the BBQ (no surprises there then).

And a fifth of women even revealed that they felt pressured NOT to cook, despite 34 percent admitting that they’d like to.

But it’s the women who should take the real glory at a BBQ… Read the full story

Bird has an badly timed meeting with Edinburgh Castle’s one o’clock gun

| blog, L&B World, UK | June 30, 2015

It’s fair to say most people know not to get too close to massive artillery guns while they are firing.

Sadly the birds remain ignorant of this fact, which is why Edinburgh castle almost inadvertently declared war on the avian kind recently.

Graham Anderson was visiting the famous Scottish landmark recently and was lucky enough to witness the firing of the one o’clock gun.

A bird with poor timing decided to fly over the battlements just as the gun was let off, scaring the life out of it.

The guns do not fire real ammunition, otherwise the tourists would have witnessed their real power (and probably a bit of blood as well).

Thankfully the bird looks fine and even manages to fly away from the castle.

But will he be back for revenge? Only time will tell…

She's also the creator of The11thSecond.com, a blog and community for Snapchat artists to share their work off the platform. The first jetpack you can actually buy is on sale next year (for £100,000)

| blog, L&B World, News | June 30, 2015

We’ve been promised jetpacks for so long that one science writer actually wrote a book entitled, ‘Where’s My Jetpack?’

But next year, the first proper, commercially available goes on sale – sadly, for £100,000.

Up until now, jetpacks have existed, but they’ve been extremely expensive and difficult to fly – so only a handful of people ever have.

This one has an inbuilt ballistic parachute in case anything goes wrong, can fly at 45mph, for up to 30 minutes.

Pilots can reach heights of up to 3,000 feet – which isn’t exactly Iron Man territory – but should make for some interesting bank heists.

Makers Martin Aircraft say that the first buyers may be emergency workers.

‘I think the first responders will see that as a massive improvement to their capability,’ said Peter Coker, chief executive of Martin Aircraft, ‘Naturally for the ambulance service, getting to a point of… Read the full story
