A woman who could not afford rent sat dead at a McDonald’s table almost all night before people realised something was wrong.

The homeless customer was dubbed one of the city’s ‘McRefugees’, who have nowhere to live because of Hong Kong’s exorbitant rents and so spend nights in the safety of all-night restaurants.

She was surrounded by diners but nobody tried to help her until 8.30am on Saturday… Read the full story

Lucio Barani

A male Italian politician mimed oral sex at a female senator during a debate on Friday.

Seemingly forgetting that this was the 21st century, Lucio Barani appeared to gesture with his hand into his mouth in the direction of Barbara Lezzi.

Naturally, the outrageous incident plunged the chamber into chaos.

Lezzi was debating on behalf of the eurosceptic, anti-establishment Five Star Movement.

Paola Taverna, another Five Star member, called Barani a ‘disgusting pig’ before re-enacting the gesture to show Senate Speaker Pietro Grasso.

At the time Barani claimed he wasn’t miming oral sex, but was pointing at his mouth to show the opposition what they could do with their policies.

‘The so-called ladies do much worse than us and Grasso allows… Read the full story

This is why you shouldn’t be annoyed about the new 5p carrier bag charge

| blog, Environment, L&B World, UK | October 5, 2015

As of today, carrier bags will cost shoppers in England 5p each.

Unsurprisingly, people are annoyed that they’ll have to pay the tiny amount for a plastic bag – or even bring their own. (I know, the horror!)

Last year 7.6billion single-use bags were given out in the UK – that’s 140 bags per person.

Around 90 per cent of bags are thrown away after one use, and because they take about 1,000 years to biodegrade they often end up in parks, rivers and oceans.

Once they’re discarded, animals often eat or get trapped in them.

So if you’re one of the people grumbling about the charge, here are 13 reasons it’s actually a great idea.

Here are the most ridiculous reactions to the plastic bag price hike

Brit shoppers now face a 5p charge for plastic bags (Picture: Getty)

Britain’s shoppers face a compulsory 5p charge for their carrier bags from today.

While the move has been widely welcomed by environmental campaigners, some people are finding it a little hard to deal with.

It’s believed that the small cost will discourage the overall use of plastic bags – which is pretty important considering the impact they have on the environment – in particular animals and their habitats.

While there are ways around the 5p charge and a number of exemptions, some folk are finding it particularly difficult to let go of free single-use carriers.

Here are some useful (and some weird) ways to recycle all those 5p plastic bags

| blog, L&B World, UK | October 5, 2015

So many bags (Picture: Getty Images)

If you head down to the shops today you better take an extra pair of hands (or a reusable bag), because a plastic bag with cost you 5p.

England today became the last part of the UK to introduce the charge for all plastic bags given out at supermarkets and large shops.

The idea is to slash the staggering 7.6billion plastic bags used every year in the country.

Of course, there is a good chance you have a draw full of the things in the kitchen anyway, so how can you re-use these ever-present bags?

Luckily the kind folks over at WikiHow have compiled a list of possible alternative uses.

Some of the uses are great ideas, others… well… just look for… Read the full story
