If you use Uber you’ll know about the star rating. Passengers get to rate the drivers after their ride, drivers get to rate passengers.

Drivers’ ratings are made visible – you can see their star rating when they pick up your call – but passenger ratings are stored by Uber (they aren’t a secret – they can be revealed when you contact customer support). They are used by the drivers to ascertain whether they are about to pick up a dream ride or a DB.

The unnamed man disappeared in 2004 (Picture: NTV)

Police in Russia have described finding a man who deserted the army 11 years ago and has been hiding in the woods since.

The unnamed 30-year-old disappeared from his post on the Kamchatka peninsula in 2004, a year after his conscription.

Police failed to track him down, and he was declared dead when family members ‘identified’ his body.

But now, 11 years after his disappearance, the man has been found alive and well and living in a forest in the eastern part of the country, and if local villagers hadn’t reported a ‘suspicious inhabitant’ living nearby he may not… Read the full story

MPs to debate on Wednesday whether UK should bomb ISIS in Syria

| blog, L&B World, World | November 30, 2015

COMP-syria

MPs are likely to hold a debate on Wednesday to decided whether the UK should bomb ISIS in Syria.

Jeremy Corbyn will let party members vote with their consciences on David Cameron’s proposals for airstrikes, following days of speculation on whether he would tell MPs to vote against them.

Up to 100 Labour MPs may vote with the Tories supporting airstrikes, it has been reported.

It’s understood Corbyn will make clear that the party’s official policy is to oppose plans to join France and the US in bombing Syria, but will not impose a whip directing them what to do.

| blog, L&B World, News | November 30, 2015

Why won't you die? Credit: METRO/Myles Goode
Why won’t you die?<br />Credit: METRO/Myles Goode

Like some kind of dreadful, psycho ex, Twitter’s While You Were Away feature stalks you every single day – and CANNOT BE KILLED.

The feature, which summarises Tweets, asks, ‘Did you like this?’ every time.

You’d think that if you said, ‘No,’ several hundred times (we have), it would go away.

But it doesn’t. It just pops right back up, and asks, ‘Did you like this?’ again.

Nothing else in the world of technology is like this: it’s like a circular email without an Unsubscribe button, or a Facebook app you can’t remove.

WHY have they done it? Why won’t Twitter kill it?… Read the full story
