Astronomers think they have just discovered a never-before-seen type of black hole

A massive black hole that might be the second largest in the galaxy has just been discovered.

Boffins (read: incredibly intelligent and talented astronomers) in Japan located a gas cloud about 200 light years away from the centre of the Milky Way.

They think this might be the first ever detection of an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH).

Why is this important? Scientists are already aware of the existence of two types of black hole: Stellar-mass black holes and supermassive black holes.

However for many years they have theorised about the existence of the intermediate black hole – the size of which would be in-between the two previously known black hole sizes.

Definition of irony? Man films a mouse hiding below the cheese at Tesco

| blog, L&B World, Weird | January 15, 2016

Sometimes life really is like a cartoon.

That’s what one man must have thought when he saw a mouse running around on the cheese stand in a Tesco supermarket recently.

Michael Page, 39, spotted the mouse in Doncaster, and immediately pulled out his phone to start recording.

He said: ‘I was just coming back from my partner’s salon when I called into the petrol station to fill up and pick up a few bits and bobs.

‘I was just wondering around the store, thinking what to buy when I noticed the mouse scurrying around.’

A woman found herself in a precarious position recently after a snake bound her hands together and started biting her.

The woman was stroking her room mate’s python in Australia (where else?) when the snake coiled around her hands and began biting her.

The room mate explained how he awoke to the sound of screaming and ran into the next room to see the woman in her painful predicament.

Despite being three in the morning the pair decided to call and snake expert as the woman was unable to free herself from the python’s powerful grip.

Stuart McKenzie was called and after being sent a picture of the… Read the full story

Behold, one of the greatest named animals on the planet – the bony-eared assfish.

No, we did not make that up, nor was the animal named by a 10-year-old boy.

The bony-eared assfish’s scientific name is Acanthonus armatus, however it is on display at the Royal BC Museum in British Columbia, Canada with its proper (and far more humorous) name.

While no one is quite sure how the fish got its name, some scientists think it fits perfectly.

Some joker tied loads of balloon animals to the poles on the London Tube

| blog, L&B World, Weird | January 15, 2016

The London Underground is a pretty glum place, so you have to celebrate the people who try and liven it up a bit.

A recent attempt saw some joker tie balloon animals to the poles throughout a carriage on the District Line.

Dozens of donkeys, dogs and giraffes (of the balloon variety) could be seen clinging onto the poles – however the bored commuters didn’t seem too bothered by them.

So far no-one knows who left the balloon animals or why they did it, but if you have ordered a magician for a birthday party this weekend and they turn up without any balloons then he or she might be the culprit (don’t worry, they… Read the full story
