Airports – they’re all queues, queues, queues.

But a new proposed patent by Airbus could speed that all up – by allowing you to board the plane without going any further than the boarding gate.

The patent, which was first proposed in February, would allow the plane’s cabin to be detached and suspended at the gate by crane-like arms.

In short, that means that passengers would be able to climb aboard the plane without travelling further than the boarding gate – eliminating the need to walk down a long and narrow jet bridge.

The North Terminal of Gatwick Airport was evacuated this morning after a Frenchman approached an easyJet check-in desk carrying two guns.

He was subsequently challenged by staff before running from the North Terminal to the level-two multi storey car park, where he threw one of the guns into a bin.

Police and airport staff continued to pursue the man, and he was found to have another gun strapped to his body when arrested a short time after.

Eyewitnesses say that armed police screamed ‘get down, get down’ as he was restrained.

Sussex Police confirmed the evacuation of the airport, while Twitter users claimed that a ‘lockdown is in progress.’
