People are crowdfunding a new bike for Jeremy Corbyn, for some reason

| blog, Jeremy Corbyn, L&B World, Labour Party, UK | January 14, 2016

bike

Jez-lovers have started up a campaign to get the Labour leader his dream bike.

More than 1,000 people have already donated, smashing the target and coming up with £2,800 so far (the excess will go to charity).

The unusual crowdfunding attempt comes after an article in the Telegraph appeared to criticise the politician for daring to admit he wanted a new Raleigh bike for his commute, worth £475.

It’s a lot less than a private driver would cost – but the newspaper seemed upset with with the extravagance as the piece was titled: ‘Socialist Jeremy Corbyn reveals he covets a £475 bicycle.’

Since a backlash on social media, the headline has changed to read: ‘Jeremy Corbyn reveals his dearest wish is a £475 bicycle’

Wake up, everyone – after four long days, Jeremy Corbyn has finally finished his reshuffle.

The shake up of the shadow cabinet saw three ministers resign – including Stephen Doughty, who dramatically quit his position on the foreign affairs team live on BBC Daily Politics.

Naturally, such a major process requires some deliberation – but the reshuffle took so long that it felt like we’d been sucked into a time vortex.

Here are… Read the full story

Despite warnings that he could look ‘petty and divisive’ if he reshuffled his shadow cabinet, Jeremy Corbyn made two high-profile sackings as he made changes to his front bench yesterday.

Michael Dugher, the former shadow culture secretary, was the first casualty. He was swiftly followed by Europe spokesman Pat McFadden.

After 30 hours of negotiations shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn avoided the chop.

Conservative London mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith has accused his Labour counterpart of ‘playing the race card’ in the run-up to the election.

According to a source close to Sadiq Khan, the Labour candidate took offence to Mr Goldsmith’s claim that he was ‘radical and divisive’, taking issue in particular with the use of the word ‘radical’ which could be interpreted as a ‘coded racist attack’, The Telegraph reports.

Speaking with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Goldsmith, who is the MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston, accused Mr Khan of ‘playing the race card’, adding that it was ‘very… Read the full story

Er… Is John McDonnell tweeting abuse at himself?

Followers of the Shadow Chancellor were left bewildered (and amused) when it looked like he’d accidentally trolled himself from his own account.

‘Did you forget to change accounts before you threatened yourself dear?’ one concerned citizen asked.

Another suggested he was ‘channelling Ed Balls’ (who, lest we forget, tweeted his own name four and a half years ago and will never, ever live it down).

And someone helpfully told him: ‘That’s not how retweeting works, mate.’

But fear not, everyone, it… Read the full story
