You might not even have noticed, but you’ve been paying a subscription for Whatsapp – $1, or 69p a year.

But the company has just dropped the fee, meaning WhatsApp is completely free from here on in.

Better still, the fee ISN’T going to be replaced with annoying ads, its chief has promised.

Speaking at a conference in Germany, WhatsApp chief Jan Koum said the annual fee would be scrapped immediately, and the service would become completely free to all users.

Previously the app had been free for the first year before users were asked to pay for every subsequent year.

Mr Koum instead saying the app will focus on making… Read the full story

But someone’s come up with a quick and easy way to work out simple multiplications using our own digits.

Let’s use 7×7 as an example.

Assume that your scrunched up hand already carries the value of five.

NASA ‘probably won’t get to Mars’ by the 2030s, new report claims

| blog, L&B World, News | January 18, 2016

Getting to Mars and actually surviving there is really, really difficult – just ask Matt Damon’s character in The Martian.

And a new report by the US Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) suggests that NASA’s being a touch over-optimistic when it comes to when we’ll get there.

A NASA report last year suggested we might get to the Red Planet by the 2030s – but it’s too risky and the technology isn’t well-enough researched, ASAP suggests.

ASAP wrote, ‘Unfortunately, the level of detail in the report … does not really validate whether NASA would be capable of achieving such an ambitious objective in a reasonable time period, with realistically attainable technologies, and with budgetary requirements that are consistent with the current economic environment.

‘Although the document does identify a few specific technologies that will be needed to accomplish the overall mission, including Solar Electric Propulsion and a Deep Space Habitat, it lacks a top-level architecture… Read the full story

Some people thought they were ‘suspicious’ (Picture: VPD)

Last week Canadian police appealed for information regarding ‘Middle Eastern’ looking men seen taking pictures at a Vancouver shopping mall.

People were concerned they might be scoping out the building for a terrorist attack – but now the men have come forward, and they turned out to be Brits visiting the country for eye surgery.

CCTV stills leaked to the media showed the three, snapping away with mobile phone cameras.

But in an interview with CBC, the men, from Manchester, said they took pictures so they could zoom in and see things… Read the full story
