We’ve all heard that today is supposed to be the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

It’s been pumped out by PR firms for more than a decade, but is ‘Blue Monday’ actually just trivialising real mental health issues?

Mental health charity Mind have launched a counter campaign – #BlueAnyDay – to dispel the myth that there is one magical day of the year where we feel most depressed.

Last week Canadian police appealed for information regarding ‘Middle Eastern’ looking men seen taking pictures at a Vancouver shopping mall.

People were concerned they might be scoping out the building for a terrorist attack – but now the men have come forward, and they turned out to be Brits visiting the country for eye surgery.

CCTV stills leaked to the media showed the three, snapping away with mobile phone cameras.

But in an interview with CBC, the men, from Manchester, said they took pictures so they could zoom in and see things… Read the full story

A man who confronted teenagers throwing snowballs at cars and lampposts was punched in the face.

The man, who told the boys they could cause an accident, needed hospital treatment after they piled in and assaulted him as a group at around 1pm yesterday on Collyweston Road in Northampton.

This morning Northamptonshire Police launched an appeal for information about the gang of boys, all said to be white and around 15 years old.

Officers said one was around six feet tall, of a normal build with short shaved, light fair hair and a small amount of facial hair around his chin. He wore a dark coloured coat.

A man eagerly anticipating the delivery of his new smartphone was shocked to discover it had been replaced by a sponge and a smelly tin of sardines.

Sounds like a practical joke doesn’t it?

If it was, no-one has yet admitted to switching Greg Cundill’s shiny Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

What’s even more bizarre is the package was perfectly sealed when it arrived at his home in Honiton, Devon, on Thursday.

Scots have long suspected it, but now they have extra proof that living north of the wall is better.

Average workers in Scotland now earn more than their English counterparts for the ‘first time ever’, earning a typical £11.92 an hour, compared with £11.84 across England.

Think tank the Resolution Foundation (not biased, as it’s based in London) is about to release a report called ‘The State of Working Scotland’ – and it looks like Scots have more reason to celebrate than just having certain cool words English people don’t… Read the full story

Is this breast enhancement crowd funding site the creepiest thing on the internet?
‘Invest in breasts!’ screams myfreeimplants.com (Picture: MyFreeImplants.com)

There is actually a website where random people can donate money for women’s breast implants.

The site, myfreeimplants.com, says it has been operating since 2005. It’s a place where women crowdsource ‘donations’ towards their surgery in exchange for messages, photos and videos of themselves.

Unsurprisingly, it has been called ‘degrading’ and ‘inappropriate’ by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
