The UK had a white winter weekend and everyone seemed to love it.

Images from around the country showed snowmen being built and sledges being manned as people made the most of the weather.

If you missed the snow it might not be too late as the Met Office predicted there could be some more over the next few days, although most of it will clear.

Weather forecast: It’s going to be cold, icy and snowy this weekend

Cold, icy and snowy. That’s basically the forecast for this weekend.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for large swathes of the country, with up to 10cm (four inches) of snow expected in some areas.

Yellow alerts cover all of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, as well as south-east England, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber regions and the north-east.

It’s finally snooowing!

Thanks to global warming we had the warmest December since records began, and all hopes of a white Christmas were dashed when we saw this:

MORE: It’s 30°C warmer today than it was five years ago

However, as soon as we saw snow forecast this week our hopes were raised again.

And it did not disappoint.

UK gets amber warning after four inches of snow predicted

As much as four inches of snow could fall in the UK tonight.

If you live in southern Scotland, northern England, Northern Ireland and Wales, then brace yourselves.

The Met Office has put out an amber warning in preparation for snow fall tonight and tomorrow in Midlothian, East Lothian, the Borders and the Shetland islands.

But the Meteogroup added it may also fall in lower levels of northern England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Ten centimetres (four inches) in total could hit on higher ground.

Coldest winter in 58 years is set to hit the UK

The UK is braced for its coldest winter for 58 years as an Arctic freeze comes in from Siberia and the North Pole.

The Met Office says we’re set to see gales, plunging temperatures and even snow, and we should expect travel chaos.

It doesn’t matter how warm you think your beer jacket is, you’re going to need a few layers of real clothing if you’re out tomorrow tonight.

The Met Office warns that New Year’s Eve will quite a bit colder than it has been recently.

During the day showers will spread quickly from west to east across the UK. By midday the rain will have moved down through Wales and into Devon and Cornwall.
