A female commuter and a railway ticket inspector were hospitalised after a man threw a toxic substance – thought to be some kind of acid – in their faces on the train.

The pair were travelling on the London Overground towards South Tottenham last night when a dispute erupted over fares.

The row culminated in a man flinging a toxic substance at a rail employee and a passenger.

‘Guy & girl had acid chucked on their face on LDNOverground at South Tottenham – whole carriage (including my sis) pouring water over them!’ wrote Rosie Busiakiewicz on Twitter.
